Consistency is not always positive

February 9, 2017

I have been thinking a lot about the word 'consistency' as of late.  For the most part we think of the word 'consistency' in a positive manner, but lately, I've been reminded that consistency can also be negative.

"It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what we do consistently."  Tony Robbins

Every day, I am consistent with many things, of course, there are mistakes, mishaps and road bumps along the way......but I am consistent in being the best human I can be in all aspects of my life - from mom to educator to business owner to friend -to all of the roles I hold in my life -I am consistently striving to be the best ME for every person in my life. This is the consistency which inspires me to do what I do each day...... in the most consistent way possible.

The consistency I want to address is when I use the phrase, "at least they are consistent."

Consistently "making things up"  -  if you have to live in a pretend world, change your life. You have the control. Don't make things up to manipulate others, control others, or make yourself believe you are someone other than who you are - own who you are - the real you- consistently.

Consistently "disrespect" - don't go out of your way to be disrespectful.  Whether that is your need to talk about others negatively, your need to hide behind an email/text you send in all CAPS, spell an individual's name wrong purposefully, or just ignore them when they deserve a response - own who you are - remember you are disrespectful because deep down you have little to no respect for yourself.

Consistently "blame others" - take a long look in the mirror.  Don't blame others for your current life situation, your lack of money, your unhappy relationship - stop blaming, because blaming will not change anything and until you stop blaming and owning who you are you will continue to play the "blame game."

Consistently  "unhappy"  - you are the only person who can control that.  Believe me, I have lived many unhappy moments, days, months, years, but that was on me.   Do not leak your unhappiness unto others, they do not deserve that.  If you are unhappy, own that unhappiness and own what you have to do to change that - if you desire to change it.

I don't speak of these negative consistencies (and there are so many more) in a manner to make you believe I have never been in one of these consistent negative situations in my life, but I will tell you it becomes exhausting when you are surrounded by them.  I strive daily to ignore it, avoid it, walk away from it, but some of it is unavoidable.  The make believe, disrespect, blaming and unhappiness will catch up with you and you will have to own that.

No matter where you are right now in terms of being consistent, remember that being consistent can be both positive and negative, think about it, think about this quote.....

"It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what we do consistently."  Tony Robbins

Think about your consistencies.

Consistently "own who you are" and consistently provide those around you with positive

consistency because if they are in your life - they deserve that.
